In human and veterinary care, sulfadiazine is frequently used as an antimicrobial agent, yet its presence in the environment, even in negligible amounts, merits consideration as a potential emergency pollutant. A critical requirement for monitoring is its speed, selectivity, sensitivity, stability, reversibility, reproducibility, and ease of use. Utilizing a modified carbon electrode in conjunction with electrochemical techniques including cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and square wave voltammetry (SWV), allows for a quick and easy approach to analysis, owing to its low cost and user-friendliness, and effectively safeguards human health from the detrimental effects of drug residue accumulation. Evaluation of chemically modified carbon-based electrodes, including graphene paste, screen-printed electrodes, glassy carbon, and boron-diamond doped electrodes, is conducted for the detection of sulfadiazine (SDZ) in formulations, milk, urine, and feed samples. The development of the academic field of prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) over recent years has corresponded with a significant rise in scientific research in this area. Nevertheless, the quality of published research, especially randomized controlled trials, does not always reach the desired level of acceptability. This study, therefore, sought to evaluate the reporting quality and methodological rigor of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning perinatal and obstetrics in Iran, with a view to detecting existing deficiencies.
Six electronic databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database, underwent a thorough search from January 1, 2000, to July 15, 2022. Applying the Cochrane risk of bias tool, the methodological quality of the included studies was assessed. The reporting quality of the included studies was assessed via application of the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) 2010 checklist.
Thirty-five randomized controlled trials, published between 2007 and 2021, formed the basis of our final analysis. The methodological quality of 18 RCTs was found wanting, in contrast with the excellent quality of 7 studies and the satisfactory quality exhibited by 10. The central tendency of RCT reporting quality, measured by the interquartile range (IQR) in relation to the CONSORT guidelines, was 18 (13–245) out of 35. The correlation analysis of the relationship between CONSORT scores and the publication years of the RCTs revealed a moderate connection. Despite this, a weak relationship existed between CONSORT scores and the impact factors of the journals.

The study encompassed cases exhibiting a clear clinical history of congenital cataracts and congenital deafness. The surgical procedures of cataract surgery and cochlear implantation, respectively, were performed on 18 children with bilateral cataracts and 12 children with bilateral deafness who were admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of IgG/IgM antibodies against TORCH agents was systematically performed on sera obtained from all children.
Every patient suffering from cataract and deafness had antibodies against the torch panel, specifically anti-IgG antibodies. Detection of anti-CMV IgG was found in 17 of 18 bilateral cataract children and in 11 of 12 bilateral deaf children, respectively. The presence of anti-CMV IgG antibodies was noticeably more frequent. Within the cataract group, a remarkable 94.44% of patients displayed Anti-CMV IgG positivity, mirroring the high rate of 91.66% seen in the deafness group. In addition, a significant proportion of patients, 777% from the cataract group and 75% from the deafness group, displayed the presence of anti-RV IgG antibodies. Among patients with bilateral cataracts and seropositive IgGalone, the predominant etiology was Cytomegalovirus (CMV) (94.44%, 17 of 18 cases), followed closely by Rhinovirus (RV) (77.78%, 14 of 18 cases). Other contributing factors included Human Herpes Virus 1 (HSV1) (27.78%, 5 of 18 cases), Toxoplasma (TOX) (27.78%, 5 of 18 cases), and Human Herpes Virus 2 (HSV2) (16.67%, 3 of 18 cases). For patients experiencing bilateral deafness, the distribution of IgG-alone seropositive cases was almost consistent, save for the absence of TOX (zero out of twelve).
The current study recommends exercising caution when interpreting ToRCH screening results in cases of pediatric cataracts and deafness. Clinical correlation, in tandem with serial qualitative and quantitative assays, should be included in the interpretation to reduce diagnostic errors. Older children, whose potential for spreading the infection is significant, must be tested for sero-clinical positivity.
