Epigenetic clocks currently in use have not included metrics for mobility, strength, lung health, or endurance in their construction process. We establish blood-based DNA methylation markers linked to fitness characteristics, including walking speed, handgrip strength, forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), which show a modest correlation with these fitness attributes across five large-scale validation sets (average correlation ranging from 0.16 to 0.48). We then utilize these DNAm fitness parameter biomarkers, in conjunction with DNAmGrimAge, an assessment of DNAm mortality risk, to develop DNAmFitAge, a novel biological age metric that integrates physical fitness parameters. DNAmFitAge shows a connection with physical activity levels falling within a low-to-moderate range, as evidenced across multiple validation sets (p = 6.4E-13). In both men and women, a younger, fitter DNAmFitAge profile is linked to better DNAm fitness. The study found that male bodybuilders had significantly lower DNAmFitAge (p = 0.0046) and significantly higher DNAmVO2max (p = 0.0023) values compared to control subjects. Recognized now as the architect of innovation, he transformed the humble peanut, a single crop, into more than three hundred diverse products, encompassing sustenance, beverages, medicines, cosmetics, and chemicals. In contrast to a focus on research, the newly founded HBCUs prioritized liberal arts education and agricultural training for the black community. The enduring segregation of HBCUs resulted in inadequate access to vital resources such as libraries and scientific/research equipment, creating a marked disparity compared to the comprehensive resources offered at traditional white institutions. While the Civil Rights Act of 1964 signaled a significant step toward equality and desegregation in the South, many public historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) found themselves struggling and were ultimately forced to close or merge with white institutions due to lost funding and dwindling student numbers.
